He married a well educated young lady from Kentucky by the name of Mary Todd. In 1860 he was elected the 16th President of the United States. On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln while he and Mrs. Lincoln watched a play at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC. Lincoln died the next day. President Lincoln, ended slavery and guided the United States through the civil war.
